Sudan has described the head of the United Nations mission, Walker Perthes, as an undesirable figure.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan has informed the Secretary General of the United Nations about declaring Walker Perthes as persona non grata.
The head of the Sudanese military council, Abdul Fateh al-Barhan, has accused the UN representative of fueling the country’s conflict.
On the other hand, Walker Perthes, who has been heading the Sudan mission since 2021, has strongly defended the United Nations against accusations of fueling the conflict, saying, “I am not responsible for fueling the conflict, but those involved in the war.” There are two generals’.
According to the UN mission’s Twitter handle, Walker Perthes was in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Thursday for diplomatic talks.
It should be remembered that at the end of last month, the head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said that he was surprised to receive a request from the head of the Sudanese military council, Abdul Fatah al-Barhan, allegedly to replace his special representative, Walker Perthes.
In this regard, the United Nations spokesperson Stephen Dujarric said in his statement that “Antonio Guterres is proud of the work of Walker Perthes and he reiterates his full confidence in his special representative”.
