All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTAMA) demanded to continue concessional rates of electricity and gas in the budget.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Aptma said that the competitive rates of electricity and gas are ending on June 30, competitive rates of electricity and gas should be continued in the next financial year.
The letter said that there is a possibility of a decrease of 3 billion dollars in textile exports this year, and a decrease of 4 to 5 billion dollars in the next financial year.
Aptama wrote in his letter that textile exports may decrease from 19 billion to 16 billion dollars. Pakistan is moving towards $26 billion textile exports in 2023. Withdrawal of competitive rates of electricity, gas reduced textile exports.
In the text of the letter written to the Prime Minister, it was said that the industries of Punjab are being supplied with expensive gas and electricity, the textile industry will be badly affected due to the loss of competitive rates of electricity and gas.
It also said that removing competitive rates would result in a loss of $10 billion, while increasing textile exports would reduce unemployment in the country.
