A US fighter jet shot down a Chinese balloon, the Pentagon has confirmed that the balloon hit the coast of South Carolina.
The Pentagon says that the spy balloon is an unacceptable violation by China. The US President has congratulated the US military for shooting down the Chinese balloon.
The US defense minister said that the action was deliberate and in accordance with the law.
He said the action demonstrates that President Biden and his national security team will always put the safety and security of the American people first.
The US Defense Secretary added that China’s unacceptable violation of our sovereignty will be met with an effective response.
The Chinese balloon had been flying over the US for a few days, but according to US media, it was initially not targeted due to security measures.
It should be noted that on Friday, China admitted ownership of the balloon, saying it was a weather observation balloon that had strayed from its course.
China had said that it regretted the situation and the unintended entry of the balloon into US airspace.
