Berlin: Germany’s law enforcement agency, the Federal Cartel Office, said Meta is introducing a new review for users of its platforms Facebook and Instagram in a positive step to address concerns about data theft. .
Metta’s Accounts Center will allow users to make free and empowered decisions on whether they want to use accounts like Instagram and Facebook together or separately, the agency said.
“We’ve updated the Meta account overview to more transparently show how our services work together and give people more control over the platforms’ features,” a Meta spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that the company will continue to work constructively with the German authorities.
It should be noted that in 2019, the Cartel Office tried to ban Meta and then Facebook from combining users’ data from multiple sources without their consent, leading to a years-long legal battle, but the European Union’s top court Will assist in this case in July.
