There should be no discrimination against transgenders, court
Karachi: The Sindh High Court ordered the administration to start treating the patients today on a petition against the non-treatment of transgenders suffering from HIV-AIDS in the civil hospital.
A bench comprising Justice Yusuf Ali Saeed and Justice Muhammad Abdul Rahman heard a petition against non-treatment of transgenders suffering from HIV-AIDS in the civil hospital.
Khajasara activists and Additional Superintendent Civil Hospital appeared in the court.
The court said in a conversation with the representative of the hospital that we do not want to bother you again.
Harish Kumar Additional Superintendent Civil Hospital said that we have appointed focal person, approach civil hospital today we are ready for treatment. Transgenders may have some misconceptions, treatment is available.
Justice Yusuf Ali Saeed remarked that what are the protocols in HIV AIDS cases? Dr. Paresh Kumar said that there are regular protocols for treatment.
The court remarked that transgender patients should contact the focal person today. The focal person should ensure the treatment initiation process. There should not be any kind of discrimination against transgenders.
The court has remarked that the treatment of transgender patients should be ensured as per the established protocols. The court also sought an implementation report from the health secretary after the summer vacation and ordered the civil hospital administration to start treating transgender patients today.
Princess Rai and Hina Baloch filed the petition through Sara Malkani Advocate. In which the position was adopted that three transgenders are suffering from HIV AIDS. Monica, Nkweri, My John are in urgent need of treatment. Civil hospital administration is not treating HIV AIDS patients. All the patients, including the eunuchs, are being sent back.
