A woman committed suicide to save her parents from arrest.
According to the report of Indian media, the police in the state of Assam has started a crackdown against those who perform child marriages.
According to media reports, a woman in South Salmara Mankachar district committed suicide due to the fear of arrest of her parents.
It is being told that the deceased woman was 27 years old while she also has two children.
According to reports, the parents of the said woman had married her at an early age, i.e. under the age of 18 according to law.
The police said that the woman’s body was found hanging in her room. which was sent for post-mortem.
According to records, the girl was married in 2012, when she was less than 18 years old.
According to media reports, the woman’s husband died of Covid-19 in 2020.
The woman’s family members said that she was afraid that the police might take action against her parents because of her early marriage.
On the other hand, the police officials have rejected the family’s stand and said that the woman may have taken extreme measures due to other issues, we cannot connect this death with Assam Police crackdown. We will investigate this further.
