Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has gone on hunger strike to protest his detention without trial.
According to foreign news agencies, Hannibal Gaddafi has been detained for more than 7 years.
In 2015, Libyan fighters kidnapped him from Syria and brought him to Lebanon, where he had taken political asylum. The militants took information from them about a scholar who had gone missing 45 years ago.
He was later transferred to Beirut prison but was denied a trial.
His lawyer, Paul Romanos, said Hannibal started a hunger strike this morning and will continue until the end.
The lawyer said that Hannibal has been confined in a small and cramped room for years, due to which he complains of back pain, he is not allowed to walk or exercise.
It should be noted that prominent Lebanese scholar Moussa al-Sadr has been missing since 1978. His family says he may be in a Libyan prison, but most believe he is dead.
