Lebanon’s foreign ministry has said it will send an investigative team to Paris to investigate allegations of abuse and torture against its ambassador to France, Rami Adwan.
Two former employees of the Lebanese Embassy in Paris had filed complaints against Rami Adwan, which led to an investigation by France.
The French government has demanded that Lebanese authorities waive Rami Adwan’s diplomatic immunity so that he can be tried.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon has immediately decided to send an investigative committee headed by the Secretary General of the Ministry to Paris to interrogate the relevant ambassador and take the statements of the complainants.
A 31-year-old former officer posted at the Lebanese embassy filed a complaint in June 2022 that the ambassador raped her at his private residence in May 2020.
The complainant said that he had an affair with the ambassador and he used to physically and mentally torture her on a daily basis.
The second victim, a 28-year-old woman, complained in February last year that the ambassador repeatedly assaulted her for not having sex.
Ambassador Rami Adwan’s lawyer says that his client was in a romantic relationship with both women between 2018 and 2022 that involved fights.
