A proposal to increase the sales tax on imported milk for children has come up in the upcoming budget.
According to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sources, sales tax on imported canned baby milk is likely to be increased from 12 to 18 percent.
According to the sources, preparations are being made to increase the sales tax on canned meat and fish to 18 percent, while sales tax on canned chicken and its other products has also been proposed to increase to 18 percent.
According to FBR sources, sales tax on daily consumption items will be maintained at 18%.
Sales tax on tea, sugar, jam, jelly, soap, surf, dishwashing liquid, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth freshener, tea leaf and canned green coffee is likely to be retained at 18%.
