New Delhi: Ethnic conflicts intensified in the Indian state of Manipur and a large number of people demanded secession from India.
India’s Prime Minister Modi has proved that human lives are of no value to him. Despite the deployment of 10,000 soldiers in the state of Manipur, the tense situation could not be controlled and so far more than 70 people have been killed, hundreds injured and 30,000 displaced.
The Modi government imposed Section 144 by suspending internet services for 5 days in the state of Manipur with a population of 3 million.
The ongoing tension since last month escalated when on May 28, 2023 at around 2 am, miscreants attacked Modi government’s EMA in 5 areas of Manipur (Sekmai, Sogno, Kambi, Phateng and Siro). In which 5 people including 1 policeman died while 12 were injured.
So far, the government led by India’s Hindu nationalist party BJP has issued “Shoot at sight” orders for the implementation of curfew. Clashes have turned into a war-like situation with angry mobs setting fire to property in videos and photos.
Witnesses told CNN that homes and churches were also burned. A young tribal leader from Imphal spoke to CNN and said that our house was ransacked forcing us to live in a military camp.
“Unfortunately, what is happening here shows that these attacks have been planned very well,” the youth added. The BJP has been engaged in continuous discrimination targeting religious and other minorities in flagrant violation of basic human rights.
On the other hand, the opposition Congress party has accused the BJP government of conspiring to increase the risk of war in the region instead of solving the ethnic crisis.
Similarly, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has alleged that these incidents of violence are the result of a policy of dividing people on religious lines. On the one hand, Manipur is burning, and on the other hand, the indifference of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who are ignoring the situation and focusing on the state election campaign in Karnataka.
