The American company will make engines for fighter jets in India

The US administration will allow its company ‘General Electric’ to manufacture aircraft engines in India, these engines will be used in Indian Air Force aircraft.

According to a foreign news agency, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in the US on an official visit on June 22.

A joint engine manufacturing deal will be announced during the visit.

The White House received a request for joint production of aircraft engines in January.

India is the world’s largest arms importer and depends on Russia for half of its military equipment needs.

India’s state-owned company Hindustan Aeronautics has said it wants to use engines made by US General Electric in its second-generation fighter jets and is in talks for local production of those engines.

The deal is not yet finalized as it is yet to be ratified by the US Congress.

Washington has imposed restrictions on selling its indigenous military technology to other countries.

India wants to build 350 fighter jets over the next two decades for its air force and navy, which will be fitted with indigenously developed engines.
