Lahore: NAB extended the scope of the investigation into the alleged corruption in the free flour scheme.
According to sources, NAB has asked for a written account of four and a half million bags of flour from the flour mills of Punjab, while the record of providing free flour in the Ramadan bazaar has also been requested from 11 hundred flour mills of the province.
The NAB officials visited the head office of Pakistan Flour Mills Association and conducted an investigation for 4 hours. NAB also directed to provide records including gate pass of 85 flour mills of Lahore. Central Chairman Flour Mills Asim Raza and Punjab Chairman Iftikhar Mutto gave a briefing to the three member delegation of NAB about providing free flour in Ramadan.
In the briefing, the NAB delegation was told that Lahore Flour Millers provided trucks of flour to the food department and the district administration at the gate. The Food Department supplied the wheat and the mills ground the wheat. Daily flour trucks were handed over to the food department and district administration at the mills gate. Flour millers have no role in the distribution of the Free Ita scheme.
Sources further say that Lahore Flour Mills sought respite to provide records to NAB, on which NAB gave Flour Mills time till June 9 to provide records.
