London: Following the Covid-19 restrictions in the UK, the famous and bizarre competition known as the ‘Cheese Rolling Race’ is back.
In this, hard cheese is molded into a wheel or round saucer. It is then rolled down a sloping hill. Hundreds of people race in pursuit until the one closest to the cheese is finally declared the winner.
The Gloucester cheese saucer was rolled down the extremely steep Coopers Hills near Gloucester in the UK. Hundreds of people ran behind him. The men’s event was won by 28-year-old Matt Crolla, while the women’s Delaney Irving won despite being injured and semi-conscious.
While descending the hill several people fell, some were injured and some limped away from the race. Matt said he ran after the crazy cheese without any preparation, while the Canadian woman said she ran too fast and passed out after hitting someone. When she regained consciousness, she was in a tent.
This exciting competition called ‘Cheeserolling’ has been going on since 1826 and is eagerly awaited every year.
