China sends first civilian astronaut into space, Shenzhou 16

Beijing: China’s Shenzhou 16 spacecraft has taken off with three astronauts.

According to details, China’s spacecraft Shenzhou 16 left for the Tiangong space station on Tuesday, with three astronauts and a civilian scientist on board.

A highlight of the mission is the involvement of a civilian scientist, university professor Haichao, the first Chinese citizen to go into space.

China wants to send a human mission to the moon by the end of this decade. This mission will also conduct various experiments on the space station. During the mission, a 3-member crew will stay on the space station for 5 months.

The crew, consisting of Jing Hepeng, Zhou Yangzu, and Gui Haichao, will take over for the Shenzhou 15 astronauts on the space station, which have been stationed at China’s newly completed Tiangong Space Station since November.
