Shanghai: Shanghai, China’s largest city and commercial hub, broke a 100-year record for the hottest month of May.

According to the World News Agency, Shanghai’s highest temperature in 100 years has been up to 35.7 degrees Celsius, but this month this record was broken.

The temperature in Shanghai today was 36.7 degrees Celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit), the hottest May day in 100 years. Normal life was suspended in the intense heat.

The citizens of Shanghai say that the temperature is felt to be more than 41 degrees Celsius. Shopping malls and other public places were deserted and citizens were relieved to head home.

Experts have attributed the severe heat to climate change and said that the South Asian countries will have to face the unexpected and negative effects of global warming in the form of deadly heat waves.

Apart from China, India, Thailand and Bangladesh are also facing extreme heat and humidity. In the middle of last month, India saw temperatures over 44 degrees Celsius, with 11 deaths in a single day due to a heat wave in Mumbai.

Similarly, the hottest day in nearly 60 years was also recorded in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The highest temperature ever recorded was 45.4C in Tak, Thailand.

Recall that a report by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has warned that 2023 to 2027 will be the hottest five-year period on record.

The report states that this is due to greenhouse gases and El Nino, which together increase the temperature. Each increase in global warming will intensify multiple and concurrent threats.
