America needs 1 million electricians for its environmental goals.
According to Rewiring America, the U.S. needs 1 million electricians to install solar panels, build electric vehicle charging stations and heat pumps by 2035 as part of its carbon-free electricity plan.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor, the annual salary of an electrician in the US in 2021 was more than $60,000, and in all other fields the salary was around $45,000, while electricians earn even more. .
Electrical workers in the US are mostly men, according to official figures only 2% of electricians are women, however according to a BBC report, the sector is facing a serious shortage of workers. That now America is working on running cars and buildings with electricity instead of fuel.
Sam Kelish, a researcher from Rewiring America, says that 80,000 jobs will be created annually in the field of electricity in the coming decade. It should be noted that under the Inflation Reduction Act, a plan has been made to promote electric vehicles and move homes to electricity.
