Moscow:
Russia has rejected US President Joe Biden’s criticism that Moscow is planning to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, saying Washington has deployed similar nuclear weapons in Europe for decades.
According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’, Russia said it was moving ahead with the first deployment of such weapons outside its borders since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, while Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the weapons were the first are moving.
US President Joe Biden said yesterday that he has reports that Russia is moving forward with plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. The US State Department has condemned the Russian nuclear deployment plan.
“It is the sovereign right of Russia and Belarus to ensure their own security, the measures we take are fully consistent with our international legal obligations,” the Russian Embassy in the United States said in a statement.
