An Indian court has sentenced the accused to 5 years of hard labor after being found guilty of abducting and handcuffing a three-and-a-half-year-old girl during a religious procession.
The session judge’s court also imposed a fine of 6 thousand rupees on 35-year-old Vinod Bhola Kiwat, a resident of Ambernath Town in UP.
The prosecutor told the court that the incident took place on the night of September 23, 2018, when the girl’s mother took her and her siblings to see a procession, during which the girl suddenly went missing.
Her mother searched for her everywhere and later caught the accused girl at a secluded place, he was holding her hand and she was crying.
In its verdict, the court said that the accused has been behind bars for the past three years, but this cannot be a basis for mercy. In this regard, the society needs to be aware of the seriousness of the crime and punish the accused severely, and the accused does not deserve unnecessary sympathy.
