Karachi: The government of Sindh has decided to build houses for the people affected by the expansion of three major canals of Karachi.
According to the details, in the meeting of the Provincial Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House, it has been decided to build 6500 housing units on 248 acres of land of the Miller Development Authority to settle the victims of three drains.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has clearly instructed the provincial government to resettle the victims of three important drains, Gujarnala, Mehmoodabad and Orangi drain. He further said that he has already allocated one billion rupees for the development of 248 acres of land which MDA has handed over to the local government.
In the cabinet meeting, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah made two proposals that the affected people of the three canals should be provided with plots of 80 square yards and a reasonable amount for their construction or the responsibility of constructing these houses should be given to the local government. go
Nasir Shah said that 248 acres of land has already been handed over to the local government department by the MDA and an amount of one billion rupees approved by the Sindh Chief Minister is with the local government for development works. He further said that his department is ready to co-develop the plots or hand them over to the affected people or construct houses.
The Cabinet discussed the matter in detail and most of the members supported the proposal to construct 6500 housing units for the affected people as directed by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that allotment of plots to affected people will start real estate business activities in these areas, so houses should be constructed by experienced and reputed firms to provide them decent accommodation.
During the meeting, Sindh Chief Minister directed his legal adviser Murtaza Wahab and Advocate General to approach the Supreme Court to release the money for Bahria Town so that the speed of work can be accelerated by providing utility services to the Local Government Department. Finalize the initiation of the project.
In response to a question, Local Government Minister Nasir Shah told the cabinet that Rs 15,000 per month rent is being given to the affected people, which is an unprecedented achievement of the provincial government. He told the cabinet that this project will cost about 10 billion rupees while the PC-I has been approved by the Sindh Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-ul-Zaman told the cabinet that the houses damaged by the recent heavy rains and floods were built on government land. He further said that on the direction of the Sindh Chief Minister, the Board of Revenue has proposed to regularize the land of destroyed houses under the Gothabad Scheme, Gothabad Housing Programme, Regularize of the Village Programme, Kuchiabadi Act. can
The Cabinet decided to regularize the houses according to their category so that they can be given money for construction of houses under the People’s Housing Programme.
Chief Minister Sindh directed the Chief Secretary to issue orders to the concerned DCs to regularize the plots as soon as possible so that the affected people can benefit.
