Islamabad: The High Court quashed the arrest of PTI leader Asad Umar and ordered his release.
The case against the arrest and provision of details of the cases of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former federal minister Asad Umar was heard, in which Asad Umar’s lawyer Babar Awan appeared in the court.
Islamabad High Court Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb remarked that he will not leave you until you hold a press conference. Babar Awan replied that we will not hold a press conference.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb said that there are 2 tweets of Asad Umar, they should be deleted immediately, to which Babar Awan said that although this is news, we will comply with your order. Babar Awan requested that Asad Umar be ordered to be produced in this court, on which Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb said that the cases against Asad Umar are before me. If I place an order, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow.
The lawyer told the court that we had applied for providing the details of the cases and security. We want to give us 2 days so that if released, we can surrender in the concerned court. We want security bond in the criminal cases registered.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb remarked that we had asked Shah Mehmood Qureshi to submit an affidavit as well. This was to ensure that Section 144 was not violated. Lawyer Babar Awan said that earlier people kept threatening the courts, protest is our right.
Later, the court annulled Asad Umar’s arrest under the MPO and ordered his release. Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb remarked that in the 2 cases in which they are seeking bail, they are reserving the decision.
The court directed that Asad Umar submit an affidavit. If there is a violation of the affidavit, then forget the political career. Also delete 2 tweets. On the direction of the court, lawyer Babar Awan agreed to delete the tweets. It should be noted that Asad Umar made both the tweets after the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9. In one tweet, Asad Umar is encouraging people to come out, while in another, he wrote that the committee headed by Shah Mahmood Qureshi will announce the plan of action.
