Punjab Election; Will not use the past against the government, Chief Justice

Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan has remarked during the hearing on the revision petition related to the Punjab election that he will not use the past against the government.

A 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial and comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard the review petition of the Election Commission on the Punjab elections in the Supreme Court.

At the beginning of the hearing, the Attorney General said that yesterday the court had said why the points raised by the Election Commission were not raised earlier. The second point was that the federal government remained in the first four-three cycle. If there are elections in a province, the point of affecting the election of the National Assembly was raised. In his answer he also mentioned that 4/3 was decided.

The Chief Justice remarked that you should not panic. The court is sitting to hear you. If any reasonable point is raised, they will review it and take a decision. The point was raised in court but not discussed. The jurisdiction of revision was discussed yesterday.

Chief Justice Omar Atta Bandial said that the past will not be used against the government. They are sitting for the pleasure of Allah, not the government. They are sitting here after making many sacrifices. You ask your colleagues not to talk like that at our door. Do not make the conversation difficult in the House, we are working for Allah, that is why we are sitting quietly.

The Chief Justice further said that you should not make excuses, the court is sitting with a clean heart. Not everything we report is accurate. It was said that Imran Khan was given a Mercedes by the court. I don’t use Mercedes at all. The police had arranged for Imran Khan’s Mercedes. I don’t know what it was made of. The Chief Justice said that we welcomed you, said good to you.
