Washington: The Surgeon General of the United States has called for more terms and conditions on the use of internet platforms, calling social media a threat to children’s mental health and well-being.
According to international media reports, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, the government spokesman for public health in the United States, identified the possible harm caused to children and adolescents by the use of social media, including lack of sleep, mental health problems, cyber harassment, inappropriate and sensitive. Includes access to content and risk of victimization by criminals.
Vivek wrote that excessive use of social media has been linked to sleep problems in children, problems with concentration and extreme emotions in teenagers.
The Surgeon General said that children and especially teenagers are vulnerable to the negative effects of social media because they are using social media indiscriminately during the most sensitive period of brain development.
