There are many places in the world where people build buildings despite facing serious threats. Some of these areas are prone to natural disasters. A few examples are given below:
1) Hanging Monasteries, China
This chain of hanging monasteries is located on Hengshen Mountain in Shaanxi Province, China. It was built in 491 AD and since then it has maintained its original condition even after many centuries. Defying gravity, these monasteries consist of 40 rooms connected by mazes of passageways. Interestingly, the monasteries are not dedicated to just one religion but to three Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. It has 78 idols and carvings.
2) Castel Follet de la Roca, Spain
Castillo Follet de la Rocca looks like a town built on a normal site, but some incredible force has pushed its houses over the edge of a cliff. This city has been inhabited for more than a thousand years. The towns have narrow streets that still retain their medieval character. The dangerous location of the buildings and the possible weakening of the foundations in the long run are alarming to many. People have long believed that a minor earthquake is too late and everything will be over, but the town is still inhabited and a tourist attraction in Spain.
3) Shadowcliff, Lake Michigan, North America
In the latter half of the 20th century, a prominent architect named Harry, who belonged to the American city of Chicago, passed away. Harry has built many beautiful buildings in his career, but his most controversial building is the Shadow Cliff Mansion on Lake Michigan. The house was built as a vacation spot for business executives. From the front, the building looks very ordinary, but when people enter its rooms, they feel as if they are suspended thousands of feet above the ground in a glass box.
4) Liechtenstein Castle, Germany
Lichtenstein Castle is also known as Fairy Castle. The fort was actually built on the ruins of an earlier fort which was completed in 1842. It is built in medieval style. The most prominent feature of the building is that the outer wall of the fort is built on the very edge of a cliff. The vertical view is enough to disorient even the bravest tourists. The builders claim that the fort is strong but any movement in the foundations could cause the building to collapse.
5) Meteora Monasteries
Would you like to live in this monastery? If yes, it will be impossible for you to even walk outside the house every day. Built in the 14th century, the only way people could reach this monastery was by a rope or ladder or a hanging basket in which they climbed up.
