Georgian Airways, the national airline of Georgia, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, banned the country’s president from boarding its planes.
According to the foreign news agency, the president of Georgia, Salomi Zorabikhvili, said that she would boycott the airline after the national airline resumed flights to Russia.
Russia lifted a four-year ban on direct flights from Georgia this month.
At the same time, the decades-old visa requirement for Georgian citizens traveling to Russia was also abolished.
Georgian President Salomi urged the Georgian authorities to thwart these Russian actions.
Tamaz Gayasholi, founder of Georgian Airways, said that President Salumi is now a ‘disreputable figure’ and cannot fly on our airline until she apologizes to the people of Georgia.
A section of Georgian citizens opposes any reconciliation with Moscow.
Russian troops are present in two regions of Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
