Tehran: The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said that Tehran would not compromise on the Helmand River water deal and demanded that the Taliban abide by the deal and provide Iran with a fair distribution of its water.
According to international media reports, while addressing the parliament session, Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf said that the full and correct implementation of the agreement on the Helmand River dispute is a guarantee for the mutual interests of Iran and Afghanistan. He said that no compromise will be made on this important issue.
He warned that I want the Afghan authorities to respond constructively to the positive intention of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard and avoid creating serious problems between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Special Envoy and Acting Ambassador to Afghanistan Kazmi Qaumi has given the Taliban a month to resolve the situation, but the Taliban say they are ready to cooperate with Iran, but there is not enough water in the Helmand River.
