Lahore: It has been revealed that 11 lakh 27 thousand property tax defaulters in Punjab were not sent tax payment notices due to the alleged collusion and negligence of Excise Department staff.
The Director General of Excise and Taxation has traced the incompetence of the excise staff in special audits and enquiries, due to the alleged collusion and negligence of the excise department staff, tax payment notices were not being sent to the defaulters.
After taking notice of DG Excise, notices have been issued to more than 2 lakh defaulters in the last 15 days while the delivery of notices is being monitored daily.
Apart from this, DG Excise, taking notice of the extraordinary exemptions given in respect of property tax, has started examining the provision of property tax exemptions ranging from 16% to 24% in various excise regions across the province.

In order to solve the problems arising due to non-updation of information related to buildings exempted from property tax for years and to ensure that no unjustified action is taken against the employees, the updating of information has also been started across the province. is being done.

2 lakh 8 thousand in Lahore Region A, 1 lakh 22 thousand in Rawalpindi, 1 lakh 65 thousand in Faisalabad, 1 lakh in Multan Region, 1 lakh 10 thousand in Gujranwala Region, 75 thousand in Bahawalpur Region, 70 thousand in Gujarat Region, 67 thousand in Lahore Region B, There are 66,000 in Lahore Region D, 55,000 in Sargodha Region, 40,000 in Sahiwal Region and 46,000 in DG Khan Region.

2 lakh 8 thousand notices have been issued during the current month after DG Excise’s indifference, out of which 1 lakh 7 thousand notices have been issued to tax defaulters in Faisalabad region and 1 lakh notices in Gujranwala region.
Apart from this, DG Excise has also taken strict notice of the revelation that at present the total demand of property tax in Punjab is more than 40 billion rupees per annum, but a lot of this amount does not go to the national exchequer because of taxable buildings and properties. 20 to 50 percent of the buildings have been exempted from property tax for various periods.
This year, the target of property tax collection is 20 billion rupees, of which around 15 billion rupees have been collected, but the higher authorities have started checking all cases of exemption.

Presently, the property tax exemption rate at the Punjab level is 19.4%, with the highest exemption of 24.1% in Sahiwal.
Similarly, 23.3% in Lahore Region D, 21.7% in Multan Region, 21.4% in Bahawalpur Region, 21.3% in Faisalabad Region, 20.5% in Lahore Region A, 20.6% in DG Khan and 16.8% in Rawalpindi. Exemption from percentage property tax.
