India’s war frenzy has grown further, with defense output rising 12 percent to $12 billion last fiscal year.
According to a foreign news agency, this is the first time that India’s defense production has crossed 12 billion dollars (one trillion rupees).
The government is reducing its dependence on defense equipment from other countries.
India has been the world’s largest arms importer for the past decade, with more than half of its arms requirements coming from Russia.
But after the war in Ukraine, Russia is sourcing parts used in tanks and fighter jets, while the supply of air defense systems by Russia has also been delayed.
According to the Ministry of Defence, India’s fiscal year ended on March 31, when the domestic defense production was 1.07 trillion rupees.
India’s defense exports also increased by 24%, which amounted to 160 billion rupees.
India exports Dornier aircraft, artillery guns, BrahMos missiles, radars, armored vehicles, rockets and launchers, other arms and equipment.
