Illinois: Experts say that in today’s fast-paced life, yoga can not only improve short-term memory, but also help reduce stress and irritability at the workplace.
Although the benefits of yoga in both cases have come to the fore, now there is more evidence. This is because yoga involves mental concentration, physical movements and breathing exercises. The right combination of these three has a great effect on our body. A study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine has revealed the same.
According to reports, doing yoga a few times a week strengthens the mind. It also helps in warding off depression and mental stress. Although this is a small study involving 86 people from the University of Urbana-Champaign. All of these individuals had early signs of depression, anxiety and other mental decline.
It was found that people who did 50 minutes of yoga three times a week had less stress and felt happier. But participants who continued for eight consecutive weeks saw greater improvement. It has been proven that regular practice of yoga can reduce stress.
Interestingly, working memory and short-term memory were also found to be good in these individuals.
