Sindh High Court;  Request for provision of facilities in Afghan camps rejected

Karachi: The Sindh High Court rejected the petition related to provision of facilities in Afghan camps.

The Sindh High Court rejected the request to provide facilities in the camps of Afghan refugees at the initial hearing and remarked that Pakistan is not an international orphanage that should shelter everyone.

A hearing was held in front of a 2-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Ahmad Ali Shaikh on the request to provide facilities in camps of Afghan refugees. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that facilities are not available to the Afghan refugees in the camps. Instead of treating Afghan citizens according to law, cases are being instituted.

The petition requested that the Afghan refugees be deported according to law or provided adequate facilities. 3 Afghans died in Landhi Jail due to lack of medical facilities. Minors are also being imprisoned and fined. Aid from the international community is not being used properly to help Afghan refugees.

The court remarked that Pakistan is not an international orphanage to shelter everyone. The court rejected the application at the preliminary hearing.
