The biggest theft gang in German history is sentenced

In Germany, 5 suspects were sentenced for stealing rare diamonds and antiques worth one billion euros.

A German court has sentenced five gang members to six years in prison for stealing priceless 18th-century jewels from a Dresden museum in what was described as the biggest art heist in modern history.

The convicts who expressed satisfaction over the sentence belong to the “Remo clan,” a sprawling family based mostly in Berlin known for its ties to organized crime.

The suspects, all in their 20s, were charged with gang burglary and aggravated arson. The sixth accused of the gang was ordered to be acquitted by the court.

In 2019, there was a robbery at a German museum in which a group stole rare and valuable diamonds from the 16th century. According to the police, the current value of these rare and ancient diamonds of the 16th century was around 1 billion euros.

The police registered a case against the museum management, started an investigation with the help of CCTV footage and after a year-long investigation, raided a flat in Berlin where three suspects were arrested.
