Pakistani citizen Majid Khan was released from Guantanamo Bay prison after 16 years.
According to US officials, Majid Khan will be transferred to a third country, while sources say that Majid has been sent to the Caribbean and Central American country of Belize.
Majid Khan was arrested by the CIA in March 2003 for working for al-Qaeda.
Majid Khan pleaded guilty in 2012 under a plea deal to being involved in a plot to assassinate the then Pakistani president and taking money for the Indonesian hotel bomb plot.
Majid Khan, 42, was considered a high-value US prisoner arrested after the 9/11 attacks, and was sentenced two years ago.
Majid Khan was sentenced to 26 years in prison, but he was promised to be released in 2022 as per the deal made with him.
