Bahrain: Order to remove lesson on Arab-Israeli relations from school curriculum

Manama: King Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain has ordered the deletion of lessons on Israel-Arab relations from the curriculum in Bahraini educational institutions.

According to Al Arabiya News, King Salman Al Khalifa has ordered that no changes be made to the curriculum that are against Bahrain’s national values and that harm the protection of religion and its core members.

The announcement by the King of Bahrain comes after critics raised issues over the inclusion of Israel in the curriculum and changes to the controversial Israeli-Palestinian map.

The Minister of Education is mandated to ensure that the education curriculum is in line with the National Action Charter and the Constitution and Islamic teachings, the government statement said. The religion of Islam is inviolable and must be respected and protected at all costs.

It should be noted that Bahrain and Israel signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords in September 2020 under which Bahrain recognized Israel.
