US National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan met with the Director of China’s Foreign Affairs Commission, Wang Yi, in Vienna.
The White House has issued a statement that the meeting took place between May 10 and 11.
According to the White House, the two sides had clear, concrete and positive discussions on US-China joint relations, global and regional security issues.
Other issues including the ongoing war in Ukraine were also discussed between the US and Chinese officials.
The White House says that the meeting was held to keep the channels of communication open and to adopt responsible behavior in the environment of ongoing competition between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to maintain this important strategic channel of communication.
