Islamabad: After the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan, the PTI protest and encirclement has been going on since yesterday, during which 6 people were killed and dozens were injured.
Two PTI members were killed in Punjab while four people were killed during violent protests in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Edhi spokesperson, eight PTI workers were injured and two were killed due to stone pelting and shelling during the protest in Lahore. The deceased include 25-year-old Abdul Qadeer and 35-year-old unknown person.
In Lahore and Peshawar, police officers and personnel were also injured due to stone pelting and firing by PTI workers who were shifted to hospital for medical assistance.
In Peshawar too, 4 people were killed and many injured in the firing between PTI protesters and the police. PTI workers also continued firing in the air during the demonstration.
A deceased youth, Abrar, is 24 years old and belongs to Deer Colony, Peshawar. The dead and injured have bullet wounds on their legs and hands. One is also hit on the face. Apart from this, Sikandar, a resident of Peshawar Akhunabad, Bilal Shinwari, a youth from Lindi Kotal also died in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.
According to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, 84 injured have been brought so far, where the injured are being given immediate medical assistance. A state of emergency has been declared in hospitals and more staff have been called in.
14 people were killed in Punjab police firing, PTI spokesperson
On the other hand, the spokesperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Musrat Jamshed Cheema, has claimed that the police fired directly at the protesters across Punjab, as a result of which 14 people have died.
After the arrest of Imran Khan, PTI workers protested till late night in Rawalpindi city.
Angry protesters set fire to the metro station during clashes with the police. Khatman Nabubat Station Committee Chowk and Faizabad stations were also vandalized.
Clashes with the police continued till late at night at Chandni Chowk, Sixth Road Chowk, Shamsabad Committee Chowk and Faizabad on Murree Road.
Angry protesters ransacked inside and outside the metro station and set fires. Flames were seen far and wide and the station was severely damaged.
The police dispersed the protestors by baton charging and shelling. Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi reached the spot and controlled the fire and prevented it from spreading further.
According to the bus administration, the protesters also broke the CCTV cameras and glasses of the Faizabad station and also caused serious damage to the washrooms.
The agitators also stormed the GHQ building and vandalized it while protesting fiercely.
A heavy contingent of Rawalpindi Police has been deployed on the track from Sadar Metro Station to Faizabad due to the security situation and the vandalism of the stations, the metro service will remain closed in the twin cities.
Police arrested more than hundred PTI workers in late night operations. The arrested workers have been kept in different police stations of Rawalpindi.
Containers have been installed in Rawalpindi cantonment areas and at the entrances of sensitive buildings.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI workers blocked roads by burning tires and vandalized them. Peshawar Assembly Chowk became a battleground where fierce clashes took place between police and protesters. In Swat, angry protesters set fire to the toll plaza of Swat Motorway.
In Peshawar, PTI workers have stopped BRT buses and closed GT Road for traffic this morning. BRT buses were damaged during the protest.
Apart from this, PTI also protested in different areas of Punjab including Lahore. Protesters also entered the Corps Commander House Lahore and vandalized inside and set fire.
Demonstrators also attacked Governor House Punjab. Protesters also stormed the Muslim League House Model Town and tried to burn the door. The police dispersed the protesters by shelling them.
On the other hand, a large number of PTI leaders, officials and workers protested on Shaara Faisal in Karachi. Miscreants torched 2 Water Board trucks, a prison truck, a People’s Bus Service bus, Rangers and a traffic police post while also pelting stones on a People’s Bus Service bus, damaging it and deflating its tires. .
While setting fire to the traffic police post under the Sharjah Quaideen flyover, miscreants set fire to more than 10 motorcycles parked there.
During the riots, a car was also set on fire at Sindhi Muslim Society Cut, electricity poles were also uprooted and placed on the road as a barrier during the protest, while police mobiles were also severely damaged.
During the protest on Shariah Faisal, more than a dozen garbage bins were also brought to the road and set on fire. The police detained several people on the charge of rioting.
Near the Safari Park, unknown persons set fire to the police mobile, which was being used by DSP traffic and escaped. Meanwhile, near Gulshan Iqbal Moti Mahal, unknown persons closed the shops and set fire to the street and blocked the road for traffic.
