Turkish singer Gulshan Beyraktar Cholukulu was sentenced to 10 months in prison for making inappropriate comments about the Islamic high school system set up in Turkey.
A Turkish court has given a suspended 10-month prison sentence to Gulshan Beyraktar for inciting hatred and enmity by making inappropriate comments about madrassas, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported.
The suspended sentence means the singer will not be incarcerated unless she is found guilty of another charge within the next five years, the report said.
It should be remembered that in August last year, a pro-government newspaper’s website posted a video of the singer’s comment about the Islamic high school system established in Turkey. .
In this viral video, the singer had said about her band member that he studied at Imam-e-Khatib Madrasah and that it is a place where perversions are born.
He was released within days of being arrested on charges of inciting hatred.
The Turkish government has also faced criticism from its political rivals and some in the showbiz industry for the singer’s arrest.
