Islamabad: Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal says that the Vice President of the World Bank should request the IMF to give concession to Pakistan.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of World Bank’s Human Capital Review Research Report, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan is facing a major economic challenge. The flood caused a loss of 30 billion dollars to Pakistan. Request the IMF to give concession to Pakistan on the return of the visiting World Bank Vice President.
Ahsan Iqbal further said that the terms of the IMF program were decided before the flood. After the flood, Pakistan cannot implement some of these conditions. The absence of an IMF program has added to the uncertainty.
He said that Pakistan is suffering from structural imbalance. Pakistan should have joined the middle income countries but our infrastructure is like that of the poorest countries.
World Bank Vice President Mamata Murthy said in her address that I love Pakistan. My mother lived in Karachi, she told me about Pakistan. Pakistan has to invest in the development of human resources. We know that Pakistan is facing financial difficulties. Pakistan can get out of trouble.
The Acting Country Director of the World Bank, Gilles Dragoles, said that a large number of children in Pakistan are suffering from malnutrition, while a large number of women do not have job opportunities. The number of out-of-school children in Pakistan is 2.3 million.
