Boston: Experts have warned patients suffering from type 2 diabetes to completely avoid soda, soft drinks and other sugary drinks as this can lead to further complications and thus increase the risk of premature death.

Experts recommend plain water, tea, and coffee instead, as these drinks may be less harmful. But he insists that if diabetics continue to consume sugary drinks, deaths from other causes may also increase.

Kai Sun, a professor at the Harvard TH Chain School of Public Health in Boston, and his colleagues have urged diabetics to pay special attention to their diet.

The research summarizes that type 2 diabetes patients already have a higher risk of developing heart disease, which is exacerbated by sugary drinks.

A total of 15,400 men were included in the study, all of whom had type 2 diabetes. For 18 consecutive years, these people were evaluated (follow-up). A total of 22 percent of people suffered fatal and non-fatal coronary artery disease during this period. Many people have also had to undergo bypass surgery and angioplasty while suffering life-threatening and disabling strokes. Then, 49 percent of the subjects died in the entire study.

It was found that the risk of cardiovascular disease (CV) was increased by 25% in people who drank carbonated, cola and other sweet drinks, while the risk of death from other conditions was also 20% higher in such people. Undoubtedly, this is a solid evidence that cannot be ignored.

On the other hand, experts have advised to drink non-fat milk, fruit juice and water.
