Islamabad: The details of the report submitted by the Election Commission to the Supreme Court on April 27 regarding the general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have come to light.
According to the report, the Election Commission has informed the Supreme Court about the non-provision of funds and security. In a two-page report on behalf of the Election Commission, it has been stated that the Supreme Court had ordered the federal government to provide 21 billion rupees to the Election Commission for the Punjab and KP elections on April 19, but the government had failed to do so by April 27. And did not provide required funds for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The report further states that the Punjab Home Department had submitted the security plan for the elections in Punjab to the Commission according to which there is a shortage of 385 thousand 485 security personnel.
In addition, the Election Commission said in its report that the commission raised the issue of security for the availability of armed forces for the elections before the federal government through the Ministry of Interior, however, the federal government did not meet the requirements for free, fair and transparent elections in Punjab. Security is not provided.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court had ordered the holding of general elections in Punjab on May 14.
