Port Moresby: US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ‘Pacific Islands Leaders’ meeting in Papua New Guinea this month.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has said in his statement that it will be a historic occasion when the global superpowers will participate in the meeting held in the largest country in the Pacific region.
US President Joe Biden will arrive in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, on May 22 to attend the meeting. This will be the first visit to Papa New Guinea by any US President.
It should be noted that in 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Papa New Guinea.
The US is increasing its efforts to counter China’s growing influence in the Pacific region, and the participation of the US president and his ally Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this month’s meeting is also seen in this context.
