Florida: NASA has reported from one of its important experiments that it is possible to obtain oxygen from the soil of the moon.

In this regard, a successful experiment has been conducted at the Johnson Space Center. A test called Carbothermal Reduction Demonstration (CARD) is performed in a vacuum chamber. It should be noted that there is no air in the vacuum chamber at all, but it has a vacuum-like state.

In the same vacuum chamber, this experiment has been conducted on a simulated state of moon-like soil. Here, soil refers to the dust of fine particles that cover the moon. Successful extraction of oxygen from the soil would also help to make human presence on the moon possible for a long time.

Moon-like conditions were created in a 15-foot-diameter thermal vacuum chamber, and the clay was heated and melted by a laser. This process is called carbothermal because the gases trapped in the materials are expelled in this way. Carbon monoxide and oxygen are then distilled from the vacuum chamber.

It is expected that with this process, the moon dwellers will also be able to make their own oxygen.
