PTA downgrades Wikipedia services for 48 hours

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has downgraded Wikipedia services for 48 hours.

According to ARY News, PTA had contacted Wikipedia for not removing the insulting content on the official authorities, but the services have been downgraded for not removing the insulting content.

The PTA says it will consider lifting restrictions after removing reported illegal content.

The PTA said Wikipedia was given an opportunity to be heard but neither removed the offending content nor appeared before the authority.

The regulatory authority said Wikipedia’s services have been downgraded for 48 hours in the country with instructions to remove the offending content in view of the platform’s willful failure to comply with PTA directives.

The regulator warned that Wikipedia would be blocked in the country in case of non-compliance and its services would now be restored on the condition that reported illegal and defamatory content be removed.
