Doha: 8 ex-servicemen including 2 Indian Navy commanders arrested in Qatar for spying for Israel may be sentenced to death.

According to the Indian newspaper, 8 retired officers, including Commander Parinanda Tiwari, the highest military award winner of the Indian Navy, were working in Al Zahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services in Qatar.

These eight former Indian Navy officers were detained by Qatar’s State Security Bureau in August last year. Two of the 8 Navy personnel arrested were commanders.

The Modi government was unaware of the arrest of these former officers in Qatar. The unaware Indian Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs came to know about the arrest from the tweet of the wife of one of the arrested.

Qatar’s intelligence agency had traced digital messages from the officials in which important national secrets were shared with Israel.

These 8 former Indian Navy personnel imprisoned in Qatar have been accused of spying for Israel.

According to Qatar’s investigative agency, these officials provided Israel with details of Qatar’s secret program to buy advanced submarines from Italy.

The chief executive officer of a private defense company, including the head of international military operations of Qatar, has also been arrested in this charge, and eight officers of the Indian Navy were also employed in the same company.

Qatar has strict laws against national security, espionage and disclosure of national secrets, punishable by death.

The trial of the former Indian Navy personnel for spying for Israel will be held on May 3, in which the accused may be sentenced to death.
