Washington: The spokesperson of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Pakistan is not opposed to the agreement to buy oil from Russia, each country is free to enter into agreements keeping its interest in front.

According to the World News Agency, these views were expressed by the spokesperson of the US Department of State in the weekly press briefing when he was asked by a journalist about Russia’s first order of cheap petrol to Pakistan.

Vedanta Patel, spokesperson of the US State Department, further said that every country makes decisions based on its own interests and this is a matter of energy supply. Pakistan is also an independent country.

However, the US State Department spokesman also said that there is also a need to ensure that Russia’s purchases of petrol do not fuel President Putin’s military aggression.

Vedant Patel further said that we have never tried to keep Russia away from the global energy market, but after the Ukraine war, the situation has completely changed.

Under the agreement, Pakistan will buy only crude oil from Russia. If the first transaction is completed smoothly, imports are expected to reach 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).

It should be remembered that many Western countries, including the G7 group and the United States, have imposed a ban on the purchase of petrol from Russia, but despite this, many countries including India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are buying petrol at cheap prices and now in this list. Pakistan has also increased.
