Beijing: The Chinese president has called the Ukrainian president for the first time since the Russia-Ukraine war.
AFP Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke on the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, the first known call between the two leaders since the start of the Russian invasion, according to reports.
According to the BBC, Ukrainian President Zelensky said he had a “long and meaningful” phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding on Twitter that he believed the appointment of an ambassador to Beijing would be successful. At the same time, this phone call will prove to be a powerful stimulus to enhance bilateral relations.
President Xi Jinping emphasized dialogue in his speech, and said that the way out of the war is through dialogue, and China will make efforts to promote peace and establish a ceasefire as soon as possible.

Xi Jinping said he would send his special envoy to Ukraine, and China would hold talks with all parties to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
The French president welcomed the Chinese move and said it encourages peace and dialogue to resolve the conflict.
China has also confirmed the call saying that it always stands with peace.
