KARACHI: Irregularities revealed in the distribution of funds to government colleges

Karachi: A plan to siphon off a sports fund of Rs 90 million in government colleges has been revealed, releasing lakhs of rupees to colleges with nominal enrollment and evening colleges while trying to woo colleges with thousands of enrollment by giving them a few thousand.

There have been reports of large-scale irregularities in the sports funds of Rs. 90 million released to the government colleges of Sindh including Karachi under the College Education Department of the Government of Sindh. Instead it has been done on the basis of likes and dislikes.

In order to dispose of the funds, several lakhs of rupees have been released in the name of sports fund to several government colleges running in Syria in Karachi where students come to study and no teachers to teach.

Several lakhs of rupees have been released to the colleges running in the evening shift, while the enrollment in the evening colleges is almost non-existent, the students who enroll in these colleges do not go to the colleges, the teaching activities in these colleges are nominal. It is possible that sports activities should be conducted in these colleges.

In this way, the whole issue of the release of sports funds under the college education department has become suspicious and questions have started to arise on the sports fund allocation committee as to which criteria this committee has distributed this fund to the colleges. .

It is noteworthy that colleges with thousands of enrollments have been given a few thousand rupees, the funds given to these colleges have also included a share of scientific equipment and the college has been obliged to use the few thousand rupees received. Along with sports activities from the fund, scientific equipment was also purchased with the same amount.

According to the details received by “Express” in this regard, 3 lakh 70 thousand rupees have been released to the Government City College No. 2, which operates in the evening hours, and 7 lakh 45 thousand rupees to the Government College Commerce and Economics No. 2. 6 lakh 5 thousand rupees have been given to Government Superior Commerce College Evening.

Similarly, Government Degree Boys College Golestan Johar Evening has also received 650,000 rupees and another college of Syria, Quaid Millat Government College, has received 380,000 rupees.

On the other hand, Government College Murad Memongoth, where the admissions are not high despite opening the merit after the cap policy for admission, 730 thousand rupees have been given to this college, the enrollment of Government Degree Girls College PIB is in few hundred. 4 lakh 10 thousand rupees have been given to this college, about 8 lakh rupees have been given to Dakhtar Mashreq Government Girls College, according to a conservative estimate the enrollment here is also in few hundred.

640,000 rupees have been given to Government Degree Girls College Hijrat Colony with an enrollment of a few hundred in Sultanabad and 770,000 rupees to Ibrahim Hydari Government Degree College for Women. Only Rs 2 lakh has been given to Sir Syed Girls College, a large and well-known educational institution. A college teacher says that this money cannot even cover the expenses of one of our events.

Ironically, Government Premier College for Women with an enrollment of over 3,000 has been given only Rs.70,000 and Adamji College only Rs.250,000. Government Boys College Sector 42 Korangi with an enrollment of more than 1,000 has been given Rs 80,000, Allama Iqbal Science College only Rs 97,000 and Government Premier Boys College only Rs 70,000. The enrollment of this college is also in thousands.

When “Express” contacted the Regional Director of Colleges Sulaiman Syal to find out the nature of this unfair distribution of sports funds in the colleges, he said that I have just joined, the matter is before my arrival, it should not be. Yes, people have complained to me too, so there may be an investigation.

When Director General Colleges Sindh Prof. Shadab Hussain was asked about this matter, he said, “This has come to my knowledge, but no principal has filed a written complaint so far. If there is a written complaint, we can look into it.” He said that the fund secretary issues college education and is the regional director at the receiving end, anyway this matter is before my joining.

It is being told that as soon as the funds are received, a certain vendor has started putting pressure on the principals of the colleges to submit the bills of his company, due to which the principals of government colleges in Karachi are suffering from mental stress.
