Lahore High Court took strict notice of non-appearance of law officers.
Lahore: In Punjab, the conflict between the caretaker cabinet and the Advocate General’s Office over law officers intensified.
Which law officers will appear in the Lahore High Court has not yet been decided.
The caretaker government has issued a notification not to appear to the law officers appointed during the Tehreek-e-Insaf era.
On the other hand, Advocate General Ahmed Owais did not allocate courts and offices to the law officers appointed by the caretaker government.
As the law officers did not appear in the courts, the judges directed the officers who were made parties to the petitions to appear in person.
Apart from this, Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court took strict notice of non-appearance of law officers.
Justice Shahid Karim immediately summoned the Punjab Law Secretary and inquired as to who has prevented the law officers from appearing?
The lawyer replied that the Punjab Law Secretary has prevented the old law officers from appearing on the orders of the caretaker cabinet.
Meanwhile, a hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on the petition against the removal of Advocate General Punjab Ahmed Owais. Justice Asim Hafeez directed to refer the matter to the full bench.
Advocate Mansoor Awan said that the Advocate General advises all government institutions, the position of Advocate General Punjab is a legal position.
Justice Asim Hafeez asked whether the Caretaker Government can suggest to the Governor that the Advocate General Punjab should be replaced, the question also came up as to what is the jurisdiction of the Caretaker Government in transfer posting, different questions came up after clause G, Appointments by the caretaker government are for a short period of time.
The court sought the opinion of the Additional Attorney General regarding the challenge to the Election Commission Clause G.
Justice Asim Hafeez said, “Do you think the matter should be referred to the full bench, it is to be seen whether the caretaker government can take major policy decisions.”
The lawyer of the law officers appointed by the caretaker government informed about their concerns and said that they are not allowing us to work in the Advocate General Punjab office.
The court said that our culture has become where political appointments are made everywhere.
The court referred the matter to the full bench.
It should be noted that on January 24, the caretaker government removed Ahmad Owais, who was appointed during the PTI regime, from the post of Advocate General Punjab. After which the Lahore High Court suspended this notification and reinstated Ahmed Owais.
