2022: US spends $877 billion on defense, think tank

Stockholm: According to a report by a defense think tank, global military and defense spending is continuously increasing and Russia After the attack on Ukraine, their volume reached 22 trillion 40 billion dollars.

The annual port of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has stated that for the eighth year in a row, global defense spending has increased and has reached about 22.5 trillion dollars.

According to the report, European defense spending is expected to grow by 13 percent in 2022, the fastest rate of growth in defense spending in 30 years.

According to the SIPRI report, although this is largely due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, other countries have also increased their defense spending due to fears of possible Russian aggression.

According to the think tank, in 2022, Ukraine’s defense spending will increase six times to 44 billion dollars. This volume of defense expenditure is equivalent to 34% of gross domestic product (GDP).

Similarly, Russia’s defense spending increased by 9.2% last year to 86.4 billion dollars, which is equivalent to 4.1% of GDP.

In terms of defense spending in 2022, the United States was the top country, spending $877 billion, which is equivalent to 39 percent of total global defense spending.

According to the think tank, the increase in US defense spending was due to the military aid given to Ukraine. According to the report, in 2022, the United States provided $19.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

After the United States, China ranked second in terms of military spending. China spent $292 billion on defense last year, a 4.2 percent increase over 2021.
