Arif Alvi approved a 90-day reduction in the sentences of prisoners on Eid-ul-Fitr under Article 45.
Islamabad: President of the country Dr. Arif Alvi approved the reduction of 90 days in the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to the announcement issued by the President’s House, the President of the State, Dr. Arif Alvi, has approved a 90-day reduction in the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr under Article 45 of the Constitution.
The reduced sentences will not apply to prisoners convicted of serious crimes including adultery, murder, espionage, anti-state activities and terrorism.
Apart from this, the reduction of punishments will not be applicable to criminals who commit financial crimes and damage to the national exchequer.
According to the declaration, reduction of sentences will be applied to male prisoners above 65 years of age and female prisoners above 60 years of age, but it is mandatory that they have served one-third of the term of the sentence.
Similarly, reduction of sentence will be applied to persons under 18 years of age who have served one-third of their sentence.
