Citizens worried about charging Rs 500 as meter rent in gas bills

Karachi: The receipt of Rs 500 as meter rent in the bills of Sui Southern Gas Company has increased the difficulties of the citizens.

According to the citizens, gas is not available throughout the year, they were facing additional billing in the name of PUG, now the meter rent has been increased from Rs. 40 to Rs. 500.

According to customers, the complaints related to billing along with the service quality of Sui Southern Gas Company are increasing rapidly. Apart from gas load shedding during Ramadan, more than half of the city is completely deprived of gas and the citizens are forced to bear the burden of additional expenses in the form of cylinder gas with the worst inflation.

The customers say that along with increasing the meter rent, the company is also receiving additional amounts from the customers in the form of PUG.

137 per user is being charged, PUG charges are included in every other user’s bill.

According to the company policy, the installation of faulty or incorrect meters is the responsibility of the company, however, even if the meters are not correct, one year’s dues are collected from the customer and the installation charges of the new meter are also payable by the customer. .

Regarding this, the spokesperson of Sui Southern Gas Company says that under the notification of Ogra, domestic gas consumers have been divided into two categories, protected and unprotected.

Consumers using 90 cubic meters of gas during November to February (winter) are protected and consumers using more than 90 cubic meters of gas during the same period are unprotected. As per Ogra’s notification, protected users will have to pay a fixed charge of Rs 50 while non-protected users will have to pay a fixed charge of Rs 460.

If the consumption of gas exceeds 90 cubic meters in any month from November to February, it will be considered unprotected. The rate of sales tax on gas has also been increased to 18% from February 15.

According to the spokesperson, the difference between the months of January and February of the increase in the price of gas by Ograki will be charged in the form of installments in the bills from March to May.
