Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Information Minister Barrister Feroze Jamal Kakakhel has said that the caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain in place even after April 18, our job is to hold elections and we will fulfill our duty.
Talking to Express, the caretaker information minister said that constitutionally there is no obstacle for us to work after April 18, the task of the caretaker government is to conduct clean, transparent and impartial elections and we will fulfill this duty.
He said that the Election Commission has given the date of October 8 for the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it is our responsibility to hold the elections on this date. The Information Minister said that it is the duty of the caretaker government to provide equal opportunities to all the political parties to participate in the election and we are trying to ensure that no party gets any advantage over the other party.
The Caretaker Information Minister said that it is not our job to announce the date of the election, but the President, Governor and Election Commission. Even then there will be no problem constitutionally.
He said that there are such examples in the past as well. He said that where is it written in the constitution that the caretaker government will leave as soon as 90 days are completed, there is no such thing, the caretaker government has been established constitutionally and the caretaker chief minister and His cabinet will continue to function while in place.
It should be noted that the elections were delayed three times in the past. In 1970, the date for the elections was set for October 7, but due to the worst floods, the elections were delayed by two months and were held on December 7. The assembly was dissolved on May 29, 1988. After that, due to the death of then President General Ziaul Haq in a plane crash, the elections were held with a delay of six months, while the elections held on January 8, 2008 were held with a delay of 41 days due to the martyrdom of Bayanir Bhutto. The assemblies were dissolved two months earlier, while the caretaker government had been functioning for six months.
